If you're looking for an app not available on the Play Store, like a beta version or from alternate stores like Amazon's or Epic Games', you can easily install APK files on your Android phone. However, be cautious of potential risks from sources you're unfamiliar with. Always research before downloading to avoid installing malware on your device.
Download the APK
To install an APK, you first need the file. You can obtain it from various sources like official websites such as Amazon and Epic Games, or you can download it from the Play Store. Additionally, APKs can be hosted by anyone like any other file.
You have two options for getting your desired APK: you can either use the official Play Store on Android, before proceeding, you'll need to either log in or create your account, or you can download it from a third-party app like APKPure.
Install unknown apps
Modern Android phones typically block app installations from unknown sources by default, which is a sensible security measure. However, for our guide, we'll need to disable this setting for at least one application.
To enable installation of APK files on your phone, go to the security settings in your phone's menu. Look for "Install unknown apps" and tap it. Now, you can manage which apps are allowed to install APKs.
Choose whether you want to enable this setting for your web browser or file manager. Enabling it for your browser allows you to install APKs directly from the downloads menu after downloading. This is convenient but be cautious of accidentally installing unwanted files.
Alternatively, you can allow your file manager to install apps. This lets you navigate to your APK collection on your phone and install apps from there. Most pre-installed file managers have a quick link to your downloads folder where the APK files are stored. Some, like Samsung's file browser, even provide a shortcut to view all installable APKs on your device in one place.
